Ill Manors: Broadcast platform concluded

DVD:

1) What does this tell us about Plan B's intentions in making the film?
This insinuates that Plan B is not making the film on the basis of fame or money however he is genuinely producing this to create a positive change in the society. His intentions are purely based on his past experience making it more realistic resulting in the film to turn out fantastic.

2) What do we learn about the production process for Ill Manors?
From the production process we can learn that they had worked hard for what they wanted to achieve, furthermore we see that it is a low budget film. From this we learn that with hard work and dedication you can produce some great work. Moreover the fact that he used children from council estates, that are stereotyped as  and underachieving

3) What can you tell about the possible target audience from this short documentary?

The target audience is ranged from 'struggler's' in the physcographics to the more well of people. This is because its there for the teenagers living in the same environment as them who may be dealing with the same struggles and hardships as them, it creates hope for them and suggests that there is a way out of the difficulties they are facing and that they are not alone. Furthermore this may also be targeted at the wealthy middle class category who might never have experienced what these young people are facing. It allows them to have an insight and understand their loves and what they are going through, before they judge them negatively. It also allows them to empathise with them, which may result in them helping people like the characters in the film. This reinforces Plan B's ideology that young people in the 'struggler's' phycogaphics voices are not heard and seen as relevant in the public eye.

1) What is SBTV? Research the channel and explain how it became successful.

Identify the target audience for this interview (demographics/psychographics) and say why.

Leaving school and getting a job in clothing company Topman, Jamal continued to make videos avidly in his spare time.
Building up a reputation for the quality of his work, he would film up-and-coming rappers and singers, while also targeting more established stars outside nightclubs, hotels and dance music radio station Kiss 100.

Start Quote

I have crashed and burned about three times over the years because I was just working, working, working. Now I'm more planned, more organised”
Jamal Edwards
As word of mouth spread, his videos on YouTube, put up under the name SBTV (the SB stands for SmokeyBarz, Jamal's own rapping nickname) started to get hundreds of thousands of hits, predominantly from 13- to 30-year-olds.
And so Jamal contacted YouTube to see if he was eligible for a share of advertising revenues.
YouTube, owned by internet search engine giant, Google, turned him down three times, but Jamal persisted. YouTube ultimately agreed after he was able to prove that all the videos he was uploading were original content that he had made himself.

2) What is the audience appeal for an interview like this? How does the opening of the clip emphasise this appeal?

The audience appeal for an interview like this must be a layed back, down to earth younger audience, this is because the interview is not formal and has many informal comedic elements to it. The setting contributes immensely to the target audience due to the fact that it is not like a normal interview where the interviewer and interviewee are sat around a table discussing important topics. However the interviewer has just sneaky snuck into Plan B's comfort zone.

3) How is Plan B (the brand) represented in this text?

It is represented by his prestige acquirements however his personal character also has an affect on his representation. He comes across as a disruptive, boy who has no respect, this can be shown by the foul language he uses. However captures our attention mesmerizingly as he proves himself to not just be an ordinary bloke who swears but also works hard to achieve something very skilful and life changing.

Television

1) What is the history of the Jonathan Ross show? What channels has it appeared on? Why has Jonathan Ross been a controversial media figure in the past?

The Jonathan Ross show is a British TV program, specifically an entertainment talk show with a comedy genre. Jonathan introduces guests from around the world, who also give short performances. The frost episode was aired on the 3rd of September 2011, it has won a nomination of National Television Award, for being the most popular talk show. In the early August of 2014 Jonathan Ross along with Russel brand were mixed up in some  controversy:
Ross, who had appeared as a guest on Brand's show, was suspended without pay from all BBC shows for three months in 2008 following the row caused by his and Brand’s actions.
The pair had left a series of lewd messages on the answer phone of actor Andrew Sachs regarding his granddaughter Georgina Baillie, alleging that Brand had had sexual relations her, with Ross swearing in one of the messages.
Brand resigned from his role, as did the channel’s controller Lesley Douglas, and Ross returned to the station for another 18 months.
The BBC has said Ross’s return will be a “one-off” stint and that there are no plans for him to return permanently.
But Sachs’s wife Melody said the news was “a slap in the face”, adding that the BBC’s decision was “very sad and thoughtless and disrespectful”, the Daily Mail reports
A BBC spokesperson said: "Jonathan apologised for his mistake at the time and returned to Radio 2 for a year after the incident, before leaving in 2010."

2) Identify the target audience for this interview (demographics/psychographics) and say why.

The interview is indented and aimed at many audiences such as the media and people in charge that can make a political difference however only to a certain degree because like he said in the interview he spoke to a member of parliament however it did not go so well. Additionally and more importantly it is intended to change the perspective of young council estate children in the eye of people between the ages of around 35-47 also the demographic group is ABC1, targeting mainly the B and C social class, further more psycho graphic group would be succeeder's and the resigned
this is a huge gap from who his film was initially aimed at. This has been done not only to alter and challenge misconceptions ideologies about these young people but also to suture and understand what and why they act the way they do, this triggers and creates a sense of sympathy, almost like a quite cry or plea to people from a higher class to do something about it.

 3) What is the audience appeal for a program like the Jonathan Ross show?

The audience appeal for a program like Jonathan Ross Show is one very different from SBTV. It is more appealing to the upmarket, older generation who would usually watch it because of its adult humor and the guests they invite onto the show such as 'from Britain's great soap stars to Hollywood superstars.' This is to the advantage of Ben Drew and the rest of the misunderstood society as he can express him self to some of the intolerant, bias audience, who may not cross path with him or his work. It gives him a chance to speak out for a certain group of people who have been isolated have been prejudiced against.

 4) How is Plan B (the brand) represented in this text?

The uproar of applauding throughout the interview accentuates his overall representation in the interview. He is seen as a successful, inspiring, young ambitious man, who has worked hard to get to were he is.The introduction made by Jonathan expressing Ben's attributes rapper, songwriter, actor and director portrays how talented he is.The fact that he is even on the show where soap stars and Hollywood super stars are usually invited on displays how far he has gone with the dysfunctional past he has gone through. Personally by him even just sharing his past experience creates respect for him, on a high scale, the fact that he has come from a harsh background and has so much concern for our community puts myself and the audience to shame. He has been represented as an intelligent person with a vision and strong political idea's which further makes him seem like a positive high intellect person without the need to have a degree or formal education as such, which is impressive. Moreover the fact that he incorporates humour into his speech such as liking drawing before 'alcohol and girls' makes him seem like an all rounded, lovable person, which stimulates a positive vibe in the interview and sync's into his character.

1) How popular is BBC Radio 1? Find average listening figures for the station. How has the BBC Radio 1 audience declined over recent years? Why might this have happened?

' Chris Evans loses 600,000 listeners in radio slump: Radio 1 breakfast show and Today programme also see drop in figures '

Radio 1 breakfast DJ Nick Grimshaw lost just over 300,000 listeners in the third quarter, and is now more than one million below the audience level enjoyed by his predecessor Chris Moyles.
Grimshaw's breakfast show attracted 5.58 million listeners on average each week in the three months to 24 October, according to the latest official Rajar figures published on Thursday.
This was down 305,000 on the previous quarter's 5.88m, when Grimshaw managed to stem the exodus, posting a slight increase in listeners, and 17% on the same quarter in 2012.
BBC1 is a very popular radio station amongst the rest, however the recent audience decline over the years could have occurred because of the upgrade and enhanced other technologies, that may be more efficient and popular such as social media or specific songs from Vevo or YouTube.

3) How does Plan B promote Ill Manors in this interview?

Ben promotes Ill manors his film through the dedication he has portrayed, he would be working late night being creative too, he expresses how hard it is and he audience would want to know how it turns out, possibly giving others streak of motivation. The fact that he has been sleeping in the 'studio' and has just come from there further highlights how dedicated he is towards Ill manors, resulting in the film being even more appealing. He gives alot of credit to his film crew and expresses how you have to  'trust people and they have to trust you' this heightens the attraction towards the film, because of the great characters who have done this for 'peanuts' this accentuates the enthusiasm and commitment with the film. Furthermore the fact that Ben encloses the release date'May 4th' also promotes the film.
